Lazio, wines with a Roman feel

Lazio owns a staggering 27 DOCs for protected wines styles, but only 3 DOGCs, including the acclaimed Frascati Superiore DOCG.
From around 17 grape varieties, including the red Cesanese and the whites Bombino Bianco, Passerina and Grechetto, the most planted are the whites Malvasia (30%) and Trebbiano (28%). They’re the source for the region’s famous Frascati wines.

For the finest wines in the Lazio, try the L’Olivella Frascati Superiore “Racemo Bio Bianco” with intense golden colour, fruit-forward aromas, and a coating palate.
Native grapes are nicely represented in L’Olivella Bombino Bianco IGT and the Antiche Cantine Migliaccio Lazio Biancolella IGT, both crisp, aromatic and worthy ambassadors for Lazio’s unique white wine style.
Reds are less common in Lazio, but they’re delightful. Try a bottle of L’Olivella Lazio Rosso IGT Metodo Ripasso, made with the famous Cesanese grape for a full-bodied example.
