Ghiaccio Forte is located in the Maremma, along the banks of the Albegna River and upon the slopes of Monte Aquilaia in southern Scansano. It is named after the ancient Etruscan city that the winery resides by, where there is evidence of winemaking dating back centuries. Tuscany’s best kept secret, the wines produced here fall under the Morellina di Scansano DOCG and must be made up of at least 85% Sangiovese. Morellino is the local name for the Sangiovese grape. The harmonious combination of protection from the surrounding mountains, proximity of the river and sea, providing much needed breeze and the Mediterranean climate provide perfect growing conditions for top quality Sangiovese, but is also particularly suited to producing superb wines from Petit Verdot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Ghiaccio Forte’s Morellino is both generous and elegant. The fertile Maremma region produce high quality wines that are great value without losing their Tuscan character. In 2020 they began their journey toward Organic certification and hope to be officially certified by 2023.
