Behind By Farr there are winemakers Gary Farr and son Nick. Gary has made wine in Australia (at Bannockburn) and Burgundy (he worked 10 vintages at Domaine Dujac) since the early 1980s. Today, from 33 acres in Geelong, 80 kilometres southwest of Melbourne, they make small quantities of single vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that rank with Australia’s best.
This Chardonnay is bright gold in colour, with a trademark mineral note on the nose and hints of integrated French oak. A fine but firm palate with great acidity, texture and length.
This Shiraz has a powerful nose, spiced with pepper and mineral elements. The co-fermented Viognier adds richness and perfume to both the nose and palate. Intense dark fruit and earthy long tannins on the palate complete the delicate structure and overall elegance of the wine.
A lovely, subtly perfumed expression of Viognier with fresh peach and apricot aromas evident on the nose. The palate is restrained but luscious, with a ginger-flavoured freshness on the long finish.
