Lombardia: much more than fashion

Lombardia produces 1.2 million hl of wine every year; it has over a dozen IGP designations, 21 DOCs, and 5 DOCG protected origins, including the notorious Franciacorta DOCG.
From over twenty grape varieties in the region, including Nebbiolo, Moscato and Bonarda, the most planted are Croatina (17%), Pinot Nero (14%), Chardonnay (13%) and Barbera (12%).

Winemakers craft the most brilliant reds with Nebbiolo in the northern, hilly region of Valtellina. They’re as layered and refined as Piedmont’s own. See for yourself with a gorgeous bottle of Luca Faccinelli Nebbiolo Valtellina Superiore Grumello DOCG “Ortensio Lando”. Plums and ripe blackberries in the palate adorned by elegant scents of dried herbs and oak spices make this one a beauty.
Don’t miss the opportunity to taste one of the most fabulous renditions of the Bonarda grape with a bottle of Calatroni Bonarda dell’ Oltrepò Pavese DOC “Vigiö”. A medium-bodied red with a cherry-infused palate that’s just too easy to enjoy.
As for the Lombardia’s white wines, there are also endless options; Riesling does very well in the cold, northern climate, as attested by the Marchesi di Montalto Oltrepò Pavese Riesling Renano DOC “Monsaltum”. A dry palate filled with white flower aromas and petrol over an intense peach-scented core.
