Barbera d’Asti DOCG “Palás” 2021 – Michele Chiarlo

This is Michele Chiarlo’s coolest Barbera. A fruity cherry scented wine with its ripe red berried fruit is a vibrant expression of the Barbera grape. Harmonious with great freshness, it has a clean and elegant finish.

About this wine

The fermentation of Barbera d’Asti DOCG “Palás” Michele Chiarlo took place in temperature controlled stainless steel vats and underwent 10 days maceration with skin contact. A gentle shower system of immersing the cap took place at temperatures of 16 to 18°C, encouraging the extraction of colour, tannins and flavour. Barbera d’Asti DOCG “Palás” Michele Chiarlo went through malolactic fermentation and remained in stainless steel tanks for at least eight months, retaining its fresh, fruity and vibrant varietal aromas. This cuvée is produced from the vineyards in the southern part of Asti, where the soil is clayey and calcareous with a good sand content. The vineyard is planted with an easterly to south easterly exposure and the vines are Guyot trained. Harvest takes place manually, when the grapes have reached optimum maturity.
Michele Chiarlo is one of Piedmont’s most prestigious winemakers, producing outstanding wines from some of the most exceptional sites in Piedmont, including Barolo’s world famous Cannubi and Cerequio vineyards. Founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo and now run by his sons Alberto and Stefano, the Chiarlo philosophy “is to capture the terroir” and with judicious use of oak they develop some wines for ageing and some which can be enjoyed earlier. Their stunning collection of Barolo and Barbera wines consistently receive 90+ points from Wine Advocate, James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast.
