About this wine
The dominant position of Diego Conterno winery on the hills of Monforte gives this small winery a wonderful view of the Cuneo Alps. We are a few meters beyond the border of Docg Barolo and here, in 2003, he created his company Diego Conterno, a former partner of Conterno Fantino.
A beautiful family reality, of recent birth but in solid growth and already among the protagonists on the Montfortian landscape. More and more it can be associated with the face of his son Stefano, young and prepared, humble but with very clear ideas, which is part of a new generation of winemakers who are taking the Langa of wine to new levels, even from a point of agricultural and environmental view.
The respect for the environment for Conterno is a company model also in regards to the management of the vineyard. In fact, for years they have decided to start the demanding conversion to the biological and thanks to the great sensitivity in the field the thing is proceeding without particular problems. The flagship vineyard is definitely the Ginestra, 1.5 hectares of Nebbiolo in a beautiful handkerchief exposed to the south-west, with plants ranging in age from 15 to 30 years and ground composed of limestone, clay and tuff. It is worth mentioning also the remarkable slopes of the vineyards that surround the winery, perfectly grassed also to avoid the leaching of the soil.
Wine is passion, interpretation, artistic implication. In the wine, the strong identity of a territory is painted: the Langa of the Municipality of Monforte d’Alba. The working philosophy is clear: when one tastes a wine, one must feel the taste of the territory, which is born in the vineyard and which is expressed in the grapes. Diego, together with his cousin Claudio and Guido Fantino, founded the Conterno-Fantino company in 1982. Between the end of the nineties and the beginning of the new millennium, however, Diego decided to continue on his way by giving life to his own winery in line with his production philosophy extended on about 7 hectares of vineyards: the winery of Diego Conterno.
