About this wine

The Champagne Cristal Luois Roederer is the house’s most famous wine created in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes of Tsar Alexander II. The emperor asked Louis Roederer to reserve the House’s best cuvée for him every year. He was particularly fond of the House’s wine. To distinguish this cuvée, this exceptional champagne came in a flat-bottomed, transparent lead-crystal bottle. The new brand was named after this precious material, which is particularly transparent and luminous. Produced uniquely during the best years, when the Chardonnay (around 40%) and Pinot noir (around 60%) grapes have attained perfect maturity, Cristal is aged for 6 years in Louis Roederer’s cellars and left for a further 8 months after dégorgement. Founded in 1776 in Reims, the Maison Louis Roederer is one of the last great Champagne house remained an independent, family-owned company and is now managed by Jean-Claude’s son, Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation of the lineage. With the same patience and unshakeable faith in its creative vocation. In 1833, the heir of the house – Louis Roederer – imposes himself as a visionary of his time: instead of settling for procurement contracts to buy the grapes, he expands his vineyard by selecting the best Champagne crus. Thus, the Maison Louis Roederer enjoyed resounding success as early as 1870. From the United States to Russia, Louis Roederer’s cuvées are served in the best restaurants in the world. With almost 241 hectares of vineyards, the Maison Louis Roederer draws its strength from its extraordinary vineyard, consisting exclusively of Grand and Premier Cru in the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. True mosaic of terroir, the Maison Louis Roederer vineyard is divided into 410 parcels, which reflect the diversity of the soils of Champagne.
