The Aglianico Campania IGT “I Viaggiatori” Joaquin is made from an early picking from the Raffaele’s 200 year old Taurasi vineyard where the ancient vines are trained high and over a wire grid. In the past the owners woudl have planted a varity of vegetables and grains below for food. This clear land underneath these vines now makes maintaining the vineyard a more arduos and time consuming task. Fermented in stainless steel and aged large oak for 1 year. this wine is a pure expression of an incredible vineyard. As Joaquin’s Taurasi wine are deep and bold wines with along maceration and barrel maturation the decision was made to bottle this wine as an IGT to provide delineation between the two styles from the same vineyard.
Raffaele Pagano founded his Joaquin winery on a mission: to become the flag bearer for the great wines of Campania – the Fiano & Aglianico. Located in Montefalcione, home to the two DOCG wines, Fiano di Avellino and Aglianico Taurasi, he started with a meticulous study and selection of antique, pre-phylloxera vineyards in the area of Lapio and Montefalcione, known as the habitat of origin of the varieties. In fact, Raffaele has worked tirelessly to reach vinous expressions that are the quintessence of the historic local terroirs.
