The Schioppettino grapes of Friuli Colli Orientali Schioppettino di Prepotto Casella are cultivated on clayey marly soil of oceanic origin. The de-stemmed grapes are left to ferment in cement tanks with regular delestage and pumping over, malolactic fermentation at the end of alcoholic fermentation, immediately after racking. Friuli Colli Orientali Schioppettino di Prepotto DOC Casella ages in barriques for 12 months and partially in steel tanks for 12 months in contact with the noble lees for 6 months, then refines in glass.
The Casella wine farm was born from the will of Lino Casella, “young” winemaker who, after important winemaking experiences matured in the Colli Orientali del Friuli since the 80s, managed to transform his great passion for the vine and the land in its own production reality. In fact, in 2006 it took over one of the historic companies in the Prepotto area, founded at the end of the nineteenth century by the Rieppi family. The company covers 5.5 hectares and has some well-preserved vines, which have been bearing fruit for over 50 years. The types of vineyards present cover a complete range of products: Schioppettino, Tazzelenghe, Merlot, Franconia, Cabernet Franc, Tocai Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Ribolla Gialla. And all reflect the unique terroir of this area.
