The Tocai grapes from Friuli Colli Orientali Friulano Casella are cultivated in the Albana vineyards of Prepotto Ronco at an altitude of 160 meters on clayey marly soil of oceanic origin with east, west exposure. The destemmed grapes are left to macerate for a few hours at low temperatures in steel tanks and subsequently pressed. The must obtained is cold decanted and then sent for alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts, checking that the temperature does not rise above 18 °. The Friuli Colli Orientali Friulano DOC Casella ripens 6 months in steel in contact with the noble lees then refines in a glass.
The Casella wine farm was born from the will of Lino Casella, “young” winemaker who, after important winemaking experiences matured in the Colli Orientali del Friuli since the 80s, managed to transform his great passion for the vine and the land in its own production reality. In fact, in 2006 it took over one of the historic companies in the Prepotto area, founded at the end of the nineteenth century by the Rieppi family. The company covers 5.5 hectares and has some well-preserved vines, which have been bearing fruit for over 50 years. The types of vineyards present cover a complete range of products: Schioppettino, Tazzelenghe, Merlot, Franconia, Cabernet Franc, Tocai Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Ribolla Gialla. And all reflect the unique terroir of this area.
