SOAVE DOC ‘ALBARE’ WINE FROM VENETO
(Soave DOC “Albare” from Brognoligo di Monteforte d’Alpone, Verona)100% Garganega
The Garganega grape variety is the most important in the provinces of Verona, dominating the hills between Soave and Gambellara. Garganega does not have a strong aroma but a balance of extracts and sugars characterize its taste.
TASTING NOTES – What’s in the glass?
Albare retains a pale yellow colour, with golden reflections. It expresses delicate fruity notes, such as golden apple, apricot and toasted almond. In the glass, there are also floral hints, wildflowers and jasmine. It has mineral and salty sensations, as well as harmonious and pleasing. On the palate, the fruity aromas are very clear, especially the almond one that dominates the taste. Albare’s flavour is perfectly supported by saline and herbaceous nuances, such as hay and freshly cut grass. The body is light, making the wine very drinkable and enjoyable. In the mouth has a good length and every sip is a discovery of new flavours and consistency.
FLAVOUR STYLE: Dry White
PARING – What do I pair with?
Perfect as an aperitif, Soave DOC Albare is amazing with risotto, especially if chicory-based, that is one of the most typical vegetables from Veneto. Also roasted fish will be a great choice next to this wine.
ABOUT UMBERTO PORTINARI
In the early 80’s Umberto Portinari decides to cultivate family vineyards personally. Conscious of the small size of the company, but aware of the particular characteristics of its vineyards, he enthusiastically dedicated himself to cultivating and to vinifying the grapes. From a few years, Umberto is joined in vineyard, cellar and marketing by his sons Maria and Silvio, who with their youthful enthusiasm and new ideas pursue the dream of bringing their Soave wine to success.
WINEMAKING NOTES – How is it made?
The harvest begins in the middle of October and the farmers pick grapes by hand and put them in wooden bins. Once in the cellar, the selection of the grapes takes place in two periods, first immediately after picking and then after destemming operations. The maceration lasts approximately a couple of days while the fermentation takes place at the same time in stainless steel tanks. After filtering operations the wine goes directly in different tanks, where, in conclusion, matures for 8 months. In addition of the finishing step, Albare remains 2 months more in the bottle before the release.
