Primitivo di Puglia IGP “125” Organic 2019 – Feudi Salentini

Full Body Red

The vivid red colour with violet hints of this Organic Primitivo wine is reminiscent of fresh fruit and mixed berries on the nose. Its brief refinement in French oak releases aromatic notes of liquorice, nutmeg, vanilla and chocolate. Supported by a slightly acid structure, its low alcoholic degree makes it long and balanced on the palate, enhancing its coconut and fruity notes.

About this wine

To produce the Primitivo di Puglia IGP “125” Feudi Salentini,  vinification is carried out by maceration with controlled temperature at 24°-26°C. After malolactic fermentation, brief refinement in French barrels.Primitive is an Italian black grapes vine variety, whose best lands to germinate and produce fruit are the clay and calcareous loams in Apulia. It is particularly spread in the province of Taranto, a city included in the Salentine region situated in the South of Italy, where the climate is hot and dry. Although its origins are uncertain, it is presumed to have been brought from Dalmatia or Croatia to Apulia by the ancient lllyrians, over 2,000 years ago. Almost certainly, it is named Primitive after the Italian term “primo”, meaning “first”, due to the precocity of its biological cycle, from flowering to the grapes ripening. In fact, unlike the vine varieties with a late ripening time, Primitive grapes are usually harvested between the end of August and the first ten days of September.
Feudi Salentini was born in 1994 in Leporano, in Puglia, in one of the most beautiful areas of Salento, designed by vineyards, ancient olive trees and overlooking a crystalline sea. The name Feudi Salentini refers to the period of Feudalism when carriages and castles, ladies and knights, were protagonists in these magnificent places where wine was already an indispensable drink. The winery boasts three generations of experience in the production of superior wines, favored by the optimal climatic conditions guaranteed by the mild Ionian breeze that embraces the coast. In the land owned, the vines are still cultivated as sapling and the grapes are hand-picked as tradition dictates. We are in Salento and here two vines have found the perfect terroir: the primitivo and the negroamaro. The primitivo in particular is vinified in purity and from its generous grapes come most of the labels of the cellar.
