The grapes to produce the Pinot Noir Punt Road were hand-picked; followed by a 5 day cold soak in 2t and 5t stainless steel open fermenters. 20% whole bunches with indigenous primary and malolactic fermentation, left on skins for 4 days post ferment. After fermentation the parcels were lightly pressed and racked to a variety of French oak barrels (20% new) where the wine was matured for 10 months. Minimally filtered and fined.
Punt Road Winery was founded by the Napoleone family, migrated to Australia from Abruzzo, Italy. Everything Punt Road Winery does comes from the winery’s home in Coldstream: ideas are born here, the grapes are grown here, and the wines are crafted and shared here. As a family owned vineyard and winery, Punt Road aims to create wines that reflect the heritage of the site and the independent, creative energy of the Yarra Valley. Winemaker Tim Shand selects fruit from over 150 acres of estate-grown vineyards on the 300 acre farm. They’ve planted several varieties over the past 27 years to best suit this site including Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. These varieties shine in different ways across these two distinctive expressions. Using minimalist intervention winemaking techniques allows to deliver wines of outstanding quality, highlighting season variations.
