Dogliani DOCG “Pianezzo” 2017- Francesco Boschis
Bright ruby red colour, with floral hints and with a prevalence of small red fruits: cherry, currant etc .; in the mouth, it is fresh, of medium structure with the characteristic almond aftertaste, typical of the vine.
The Dogliani Pianezzo Boschis is made of 100% Dolcetto grape. The soil predominates of calcareous form and the harvest is manual starting the third week of September. The Dogliani Pianezzo Boschis is matured for 10 months in stainless steel and periodically decanted.
The name Dogliani is held to be a mutation of Dolium Jani, meaning ‘the wine jar of Janus’. This follows a legend that the Roman god Janus visited the town to try its wines, stored in those days in earthenware dolia (wine jars). Another possible etymology points to the fact that Dogliani’s soft, Dolcetto-based wines were traditionally ready for drinking well before tannic Nebbiolos from neighbouring villages, perhaps even as early as the January (Janus’ month) after vintage.
The history of the Francesco Boschis’ Azienda began in 1919 when Telesforo Boschis moved from the vineyards of Barolo to the hill of Pianezzo, in Dogliani. After a few days born his son Francesco. Telesforo continues his work planting new vineyards. It was in 1968 that Francesco and his son Mario started to make a part of the grapes, producing a few hundred bottles of the wine now known as ” Pianezzo “. The experience has been made to permit most of the natural characteristics of different vines and soils, and their exposure to the sun gives. For this reason, they started to produce the grapes of some vineyards in 1983 the ” Vigna dei Prey “, in 1986 the ” Sorì San Martino ” and in 2001 the ” Vigna del Ciliegio”. Vineyards are planted in the azienda’s most suited areas, but there are hazelnuts, fields and meadows. We produce different kinds of grapes: Dolcetto(80% of the total productions), our area has a perfect climate condition for this variety, Barbera, Freisa, Grignolino and Sauvignon Blanc. The European Union Program for an eco-compatible Agriculture (Misura Agroambientale 214.1). We reduce pesticide treatments and we do not use fertilizer but natural mature produced in our little stable. The wines are unfiltered and cannot be bottled in a perfect natural presence of sediments. Mario and Simona run the estate with their parents Paolo and Marco. Our labels are all designed by Teresita Terreno except the “Vigna del Ciliegio” which ismali’s (Marianne) opera.
