Started up by Joseph Krug at the age of 42, and now in its sixth generation over 150 years later, the reputation of Krug is undoubtedly justified. As he pushed the importance of non-vintage Champagne, his blending concepts drove his Champagne house to be recognised as one of the best Grand Marques. That’s not to say their vintage fizz isn’t equally fantastic – the vintage captures the fullest expression of the year – but their non-vintage expresses the essence of Champagne house Krug and is the true heart and soul of the house. Technology has certainly come a long way since the days of Joseph’s original cherry-red notebook, filled with notes on all the Champagnes he produced.
