Manually harvested, the best grapes of Ventoux Blanc “Les Gressannes” Domaine Champ-Long were then meticulously selected for this cuvée. The grapes were destemmed, crushed, macerated and gently pressed in apneumatic press, prior to a cold static settling at 10-12°C for 24 to 36 hours. Fermentation took place in 400 litre French oak barrels, of which 40% were new, 40% were one year old and 20% were two year old oak; with regular lees stirring. Ventoux Blanc “Les Gressannes” Domaine Champ-Long was then aged for eight months.
The vineyard is located on the slopes of Mont Ventoux at an altitude of between 300 and 400 metres above sea-level. The cool breezes at this elevation temper the warm climate. The warm days and cool evenings promote a long ripening period and encouraging the grapes to ripen fully while retaining balancing acidity, resulting in fresh wines with good aromatics. The 15 to 25 years old vines are planted in sandy soils facing south-east and yield 35 hectolitres per hectare.
Domaine de Champ-Long is nestled in the foothills of the Mont Ventoux, on the Princes of Orange route. The sheltered and exceptionally sunny estate covers 30 hectares, straddling the Ventoux and Côtes du Rhône appellations. An exceptional diversity of terroirs contributes to the complexity of these fine wines, which are vinified using methods that fuse traditional skills with modern technology. The Domaine de Champ-Long Owners Béatrice, Christian and Jean-Christophe Gely, cultivate their passion for wine in this beautiful countryside, on the estate which has belonged to the family since 1820.
