The selected cask for the La Bota de Oloroso NO 94 Más allá del NO belongs to a solera of 12 butts known as Vintage 1809, which has not been seen in the market for many decades. Documents from end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century mention this Oloroso as one of the oldest and best wines of the house.
It is a winemaking tradition in Andalusia to mark with a “NO” several casks of exceptional quality, keeping them apart from the seasonal sacas that are at the core of the solera system. As a consequence, such wines become more and more concentrate and old. This is the case with this wine.
Equipo Navazos is a group of friends who have united over a shared passion for the treasures of Jerez, Sanlúcar, El Puerto and Montilla. Working with local producers to identify high quality butts of sherry with finesse and complexity which they then bottle and offer in very limited amounts. As well as producing sherry, Equipo Navazos has collaborated with other winemakers including Dirk Niepoort and Sergi Colet to develop some intriguing and characterful wines from Jerez and sparkling wines from Penèdes. The white chalky soil of the Jerez area, ‘albariza,’ is ideal for the cultivation of Palamino grapes which produce the sherry for which Jerez is so well known. The Manzanilla and Sherry wines are bottled in limited series, in successive numbered editions of dated releases (the date of each saca or withdrawal has been precisely stated on the label) so that aficionados can deliberately compare different editions of the same solera if they so desire.
