About this wine

To produce the Chianti DOCG Buontalenti the fruit was hand picked and carefully sorted. Fermentation took place in cement tanks with indigenous yeasts and then pressed in a gentle pneumatic press to extract the juice. The wine was aged in 54-hectolitre large, untoasted casks to allow the quality of the fruit to shine through. The grapes for this wine come from vineyards in Cerreto Guidi at an altitude of 200 metres above sea level, in the western part of Chianti. The grapes are grown on calcareous soils and are trained to the Guyot system. Named Buontalenti after the famous 16th century Florentine architect who designed the Villa Medicea in Cerreto Guidi, this Chianti has ripe aromatics and lovely depth. For over 20 years, Alberto Antonini has been involved in a project that involves a number of growers that farm vineyards in the area surrounding his hometown of Cerreto Guidi. Alberto oversees and consults on vineyard management and harvest timing, selecting only the best fruit that is then vinified in a shared winery a couple of miles away from his Poggiotondo estate.
