The grapes to produce Vouvray Sec “Patrimoine” Domaine de la Rouletière were selectively picked by hand and each parcel within the single vineyard was vinified separately to retain the character of the terroir. The fermentation of Vouvray Sec “Patrimoine” Domaine de la Rouletière took place at cool temperatures using natural yeasts. Ageing took place in French oak barrels imparting subtle complexity.
The Vouvray AOC is situated on the right bank of the Loire Valley. The grapes are grown in a single vineyard ‘le Pont de Frasnes’, which is in conversion to being certified organic; the grapes are grown without the use of synthetic or chemical preparations. This process can take up to four years and in the meantime it is known as ‘in conversion’. The vineyard covers Turonian limestone hillsides, interspersed with confluent valleys and covered with ‘perruche’, a flinty clay soil.
Domaine de la Rouletière is located in the heart of some of the most sought-after slopes in Vouvray. Founded in 1914, it is owned by the Gilet family, wine-growers for five generations. Owner and winemaker Jean-Marc Gilet cultivates the 27 hectare vineyard sustainably, respecting the environment and the terroir. At the heart of the Domaine de la Rouletière possesses a magnificent two storey cellar that has been carved out by the Gilet family over many generations: 800 square metres set in freestone. The wines are elegantly styled, beautifully balanced and bear all the hallmarks of superb Vouvray.
