It’s hard to believe there are still hidden gems in the modern wine market. Still, if you look hard enough, you’ll find extraordinary wine producers making magic with autochthonous varietals for wines that can impress both amateur wine enthusiasts and seasoned connoisseurs. That’s the case with Jako Vino.

Jako Vino is a Croatian winery in the town of Bol, on the Dalmatian coast overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Winemaker Mr Jako Andabak is dead serious about the wine quality, but he also has a playful, creative way of bringing it to the market.
There’s passion behind every Jako Vino bottle, but you can also sense excitement and creativity in every drop.

Coastal Croatia is highly influenced by the warm winds coming from the Adriatic Sea. The endless vineyards, dating back to the Ancient Greeks over 2,000 years ago, are home to many indigenous varieties, red and white, that now share their space with modern international varieties.

The land rises sharply from the coast, so many of these vineyards have noticeable altitudes reflected on the wine’s pleasing acidity. A series of islands, including Brač, a source of many wines made by Jako Vino, thrive with viticulture. Here, the Mediterranean climate is taken to extremes with extraordinary results.

Lesser-known varieties like the grape Pošip, grown on the island of Brač, display peach flavours and an enticing minerality. A bold red wine made with Tribidrag AKA Zinfandel, has character and age-worthiness. Jako Vino’s grape catalogue comprises an immense number of local grapes that you won’t find anywhere else.

Jako Vino’s Stina Cuvée White, a field blend of varieties including Pošip and Vugava, is a masterful example of what the talented winemaker can do in these ancient soils with these rare varietals. Dry-farmed, limestone soils are home to low-yielding vines that produce pristine grapes fermented in stainless steel vats and aged for six months for white wine with a personality to match the finest wines on the planet.
