Each variety of “Or & Azur” Rouge Gérard Bertrand was harvested at optimal maturity and vinified separately in order to capture the characteristics of each variety and the local terroir. The “Or & Azur” Rouge Gérard Bertrand grapes were 100% destemmed and fermented for approximately three weeks in stainless steel tanks. The techniques employed to extract the desired level of colour, flavour and structure were specifically tailored to each tank in order to achieve the perfect balance.
This wine is certified organic and “Bee Friendly”. The Bee Friendly certification is issued by the French body for sustainable development, ‘Ecocert Environnement’ and is based on specific criteria designed to protect bees and pollinators. For example, the use of pesticides identified as harmful to pollinators is prohibited. The label also requires apiaries to be installed on the estates. In partnership with beekeepers, the bees have taken up residence at the Château l’Hospitalet among other estates of the Gérard Bertrand group. The ‘Or & Azur’ colours on the label translate into English as Gold & Azure-blue and are symbolic of the Mediterranean sunshine and the terroirs of the South of France.
